  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240g) mashed ripe bananas (about 2-3 medium bananas)
  • 3/4 cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8×8 inch baking pan, or line with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and well combined.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and mashed ripe bananas until just combined.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few streaks of flour are fine.
  6. Gently fold in the chocolate chips. Reserve a small handful if you wish to sprinkle some on top before baking.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. If desired, sprinkle the reserved chocolate chips over the top.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs, but not wet batter. Do not overbake for fudgier brownies!
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before lifting out and cutting into squares. This ensures they set properly and are easy to cut.
  10. Serve and enjoy! These are delicious on their own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

The riper the bananas, the more intense the banana flavor will be! Look for bananas with plenty of brown spots. For an extra nutty crunch, fold in 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans with the chocolate chips. Store leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to 1 week. They can also be frozen for longer storage.
