Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup maple syrup (for the glaze)
- 2 cups powdered sugar (for the glaze)
- 2-3 tablespoons milk (for the glaze)
- Pinch of salt (for the glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 20-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the donut bars cool in the pan for 10 minutes before frosting.
- While the bars are cooling, prepare the glaze. In a medium bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, powdered sugar, milk, and salt until smooth. Add more milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, if needed to reach desired consistency.
- Pour the glaze over the cooled donut bars and spread evenly. Let the glaze set for a few minutes before cutting and serving.
Notes
For best results, use high-quality maple syrup. Store leftover donut bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can also add chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter for extra flavor and texture. For a richer flavor, brown the butter before adding it to the wet ingredients.
