  • Total Time: 37 minutes
  • Yield: 9 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup (for the glaze)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for the glaze)
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk (for the glaze)
  • Pinch of salt (for the glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 20-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the donut bars cool in the pan for 10 minutes before frosting.
  8. While the bars are cooling, prepare the glaze. In a medium bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, powdered sugar, milk, and salt until smooth. Add more milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, if needed to reach desired consistency.
  9. Pour the glaze over the cooled donut bars and spread evenly. Let the glaze set for a few minutes before cutting and serving.

Notes

For best results, use high-quality maple syrup. Store leftover donut bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can also add chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter for extra flavor and texture. For a richer flavor, brown the butter before adding it to the wet ingredients.
