Ingredients
- 2 cans (16.3 oz each) refrigerated flaky biscuit dough (like Pillsbury Grands!)
- 4 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji work best), peeled, cored, and diced into 1/2-inch pieces
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (optional, for apples)
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- If using, toss the diced apples with lemon juice in a medium bowl to prevent browning.
- Open the cans of biscuit dough. On a clean cutting board, cut each biscuit into quarters. Set aside.
- In a separate large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
- Add the diced apples and the quartered biscuit pieces to the butter-sugar mixture. Gently toss everything until the apples and biscuits are evenly coated.
- Pour the entire mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly. If using, sprinkle the chopped pecans or walnuts over the top.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown, puffed up, and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork. The sauce should be bubbly.
- Let the casserole cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Serve warm and enjoy the pull-apart goodness!
Notes
For an extra decadent treat, serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. This casserole is best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the microwave or oven. Feel free to experiment with different apple varieties. A mix of tart and sweet apples can add more depth of flavor. Add a drizzle of caramel sauce or a sprinkle of powdered sugar just before serving for an elegant finish.
